When You Lose Motivation: Giving Yourself Grace in the Seasons of Becoming

There are seasons in life when you feel like you are supposed to be moving forward, but instead, you feel stuck.

You have dreams. You have goals. You have things you want to accomplish and a version of yourself you are trying to become. But somewhere along the way, you find yourself tired. Burnt out. Unmotivated.

And the hardest part is feeling guilty for it.

You start wondering, “Why can’t I just get it together?”

“Why am I not doing more?”

“Why do I feel like I’m falling behind?”

I think sometimes we forget that becoming a better version of ourselves does not always mean constantly pushing, achieving, and doing more. Sometimes becoming means slowing down. Sometimes it means taking a step back and giving yourself room to breathe.

For a while, I felt like I needed to be doing everything at once. I wanted to grow. I wanted to chase my dreams. I wanted to become the woman I knew I was called to be. But there were moments when I didn’t have the energy to do any of it.

I wasn’t lazy. I was tired.

I wasn’t giving up. I was overwhelmed.

There is a difference between losing sight of your dreams and needing a moment to recover.

Sometimes we need to step back from our goals—not because they no longer matter, but because we matter too.

We live in a world that constantly tells us to hustle, achieve, and never stop. We see people sharing their accomplishments, their routines, and their success stories, and it can make us feel like we are behind.

But we don’t always see the quiet seasons. The seasons where people are healing. Resting. Rebuilding. Learning how to show up for themselves again.

Growth is not always visible.

Sometimes growth looks like getting out of bed when you wanted to stay there.

Sometimes growth looks like taking care of yourself when you feel empty.

Sometimes growth looks like choosing grace instead of criticism.

God does not ask us to become everything overnight. He walks with us through every season—the motivated seasons, the uncertain seasons, and the seasons where we are simply trying our best.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28

Rest is not failure.

A pause is not the end of your journey.

A slower season does not mean you are no longer becoming.

There is still purpose in the moments where you feel like you are not accomplishing enough. There is still growth happening when you feel like you are standing still.

Sometimes God is doing work in us before He does work through us.

Maybe this season is not about forcing yourself to become someone new. Maybe it is about learning to love yourself where you are while trusting that God is still shaping who you are becoming.

Give yourself grace.

Grace for the days you don’t feel motivated.

Grace for the goals that take longer than expected.

Grace for the moments when you need to rest.

Grace for the version of yourself that is still learning, healing, and growing.

You are not behind.

You are becoming.

And becoming does not have to be rushed.
